After reading and considering quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods, I see that these three research methods have their own effects and play important roles in different cases. Quantitative research is a scientific and appropriate method which involves the collection and analysis of numerical data. The method helps us establish pattern, relationships and statistical significance. To implement this method, people often use statistical techniques to conduct surveys, experiments, etc. For me, this is a widely used method because of its wide applicability and high reliability.
Regarding the qualitative method, it mainly focuses on non-numerical data, exploring and meaning complex context, theories through words, images, or narratives. To gain in-depth understanding of complex phenomena, people often use interviews, group discussions, observations, surveys by topic or content. I think this is a particularly popular method in market research and testing new initiatives with users to find out consumers’ behavior and motivation towards the product.
Mentioned to the mixed method, I think this is a perfect method because it combines elements of both quantitative and qualitative research to gain more information. Then it provides a picture of analysis and description that is more in-depth and breadth than using just one of the above two methods.
Next to the CARS Model, I think it is a helpful tool because writers can follow this to build an introduction. As can be seen, John Swales provides writers with each step in detail to give the reader an overview of larger projects.
